Brand New Local Tracks Exclusively on CD to Mark SG50

Looking at the recent spate of announcements that include 50 Songs in 50 Days and a love letter to Singapore's diversity, the music industry is certainly embracing SG50 with open arms and celebrating all things Singaporean. In their case, highlighting the burgeoning talent that's continuing to crop up all over the island. It's hard to say if there is truly a renaissance for local music happening but we're certainly happy with the current output of releases.

The latest, State of Rock, is no exception — a compilation album featuring the best of local indie artistes.

State of Rock is a collaborative project between local record label S2S and audio brand Klipsch, showing an act of appreciation and support towards local music. The album is set to be a showcase of the creativity and originality by many Singaporean acts, many of whom have attained various degrees of success both locally and overseas.

We're definitely in for a treat — the album contains a comprehensive mix of original great hits, all made in Singapore. Ranging from rock, hip-hop to pop, this compilation album presents a neat diversity that range from the relentless intensity of Caracal to the meticulously refined alt-country of Cheating Sons, whose self-titled album marks as one of our favorites of the year so far. This is also probably the only time we will ever get TV personality Sheikh Haikel on the same album as Leslie Low, venerable frontman of art-rock band The Observatory.

Artwork scan of the double-CD package, which will be available at music retailers come May 29.

Besides the extensive list of artists involved, the album will also include a number of new singles these acts have yet to released. "With the artistes’ musical expertise and a steady following of fans locally and in the Asian region, we are certain that with our uncompromised efforts during production, this album will be a qualitative and successful one." says S2S in a press release.

With the local indie music scene thriving in recent years, the album marks the milestones of Singaporean music and aims to promote it beyond home. Following the official launch of the album this week on May 29, it will subsequently be released in Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand and Korea.
